The saga between the KPK and the National Police must be solved immediately otherwise it will badly affect the investment climate and hamper economic growth, said the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) on Sunday.
The arrestment of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) deputy chairmen, Bibit Samad Rianto and Chandra M. Hamzah, by the police has been questioned by the public and there are rumors that political motives are involved in the arrest.
“The case of the KPK versus the police will clearly affect law enforcement and political stability, two basic things needed to raise the investment climate and economic growth,” said Hariyadi Sukamdani, Kadin’s deputy chairman on fiscal policy.
“Indonesian society will see the President is being inconsistent in upholding the law if this remains unsolved,” he added.
The case has arisen at a time when the government has planned to boost the investment climate and achieve a 7 percent growth rate in 2014, the last year of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s second five-year term.
“If [the police have] enough evidence to arrest Bibit and Chandra, then the proof must be disclosed to the public. But if the evidence is weak, the case must be stopped,” said Hariyadi.
